Powkiddy RGB20 Pro: NEW Cyberpunk Game Boy Color | First Look

Until a saw images of the Powkiddy RGB20 Pro leak a few months ago I wouldn’t have been able to imagine how this was going to turn out. The best way to describe it is Retro goes Cyberpunk.

I’m a bit behind on my written review as I did a video review 2 months ago you can see below. This has however given me more time to use the handheld and get past the Streisand Effect of a new shinny handheld.

Outside of the RGB20 Pros design you also have a gorgeous 3.2” 1024×768 4:3 IPS display shared with the TrimUI Brick. This is one of if not the highest resolution we have seen in sub $100 Retro Handhelds. It makes every pixel pop and fits perfectly in the RGB20 Pro.

The handheld also has a nice acrylic front shell allowing you to see the SOC through the bottom of the handheld. Powkiddy is notorious for not using SOCs with WiFi and it appears they wanted everyone to know they are using it here. I for one think this is a neat little touch that adds to the Cyberpunk theme.

  • Operating System: Linux  (ArkOS)
  • Display: 3.2-inch IPS 1024 x 768, 4:3
  • Processor: RK3566 quad-core 60Hz
  • RAM: 1GB LPDDR4
  • Storage: Dual-microSD Cards (16GB – 256GB)
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm Headphone Jack
  • Battery: 5,000mAh (10hours)
  • Charging: Type-C 5V2A (2.5hours)
  • Output: Type-C OTG and HDMI

The joysticks are OK though they are limited in travel due to how they are inset. This makes the RGB20 Pro more pocketable even with Switch style joysticks. These are standard not Halleffect joysticks we are beginning to see from other manufacturers.

The DPad is good for platformer and fighting games. It loosens up a little bit with use really making it better than it began. The buttons are very clicky almost loud. This probably isn’t a handheld you want to play in bed next to a partner… but then who is going to buy a device this cool looking to play in the dark. Unless you sleep with the lights on but that’s a different conversation.

After using the Powkiddy RGB20 Pro for a few months now I still find myself enjoying it. It is far more comfortable than it looks and yet it looks really cool. This is a very tall/long handheld for one with this size screen, but that allows comfort with the joysticks. I definitely get a little of questions when I use it in public.

I think some taller sticks, better/quieter buttons and a different acrylic for the face of the handheld would make it even better. But that said for the money the RGB20 Pro is definitely a handheld worth looking at in this price range.
