The TrimUI Brick is at the top of my list for handhelds released in 2024. The handhelds was designed with being an EDC (Every Day Carry) in mind.

TrimUI Brick: Show with Stock Buttons Right and Clear Buttons Left

If you just received your TrimUI Brick you’ve likely noticed the handheld comes with and has the ability to use some unique custom accessories on it. Inside your box you likely found some optional button replacements in various shapes and sizes. There is also optional backplates you can pickup to customize them to your own taste.

Our friends over at MechDIY reached out to me to create an instructional video for their customers with how to replace these. So I created a short uncut video of how to perform these unique installs.

There are a couple things you need in order to do this:

  • T6H screw bit
  • PH00 screw bit
  • Screwdrivers that fit above bits
  • Guitar Pick
  • Button Replacements (optional)
  • Backplate (optional)
  • Patients

First use your fingernail and push up on the lower portion of the back buttons. With little pressure these buttons will pop off. If all you are doing is replacing these back buttons now place the new buttons in the grooves and push down with enough pressure for the buttons to hold in place. If you are also doing the back plate set the buttons aside and continue.

There is 6 T6H screws on the back holding the body together. After removing the screws you will find you need the guitar pick in order to separate the body of the TrimUI Brick. This is due to some pogo type pins holding the face to the body of the handheld. Pry with little force and you will feel everything separate.

Next you will find the battery cable holding the two halves together. Place the two halves face down to unplug the battery cable. Wiggle the cable free, don’t pull hard as the wires will come loose from the plug if you do. With the cable removed grab your screwdriver and PH00 bit.

There are two screws holding the backplate (yes it is metal) in place. Use your PH00 screwdriver to remove those screws. The back will now pop off. After placing a new back in place you will find the buttons sit in grooves at the base to prevent them from coming out. Once buttons are lined up in the grooves with the backplate in tow drop it into place.

Now do everything in to opposite order. Make sure you don’t over lighten the screws as they are screwed into plastic which can strip. Also make sure to double check that you plugged the battery back in before placing the back of the handheld together so you don’t have to pull everything back apart.

Turn on your handheld and bask in the glory of your handy work.
