New 3X Resolution GameBoy Advance: Anbernic RG34XX

It’s not often that Anbernic is able to sneak in a New handheld out without the community knowing ahead of time. Whether is be a grainy image next to a spilled cup of tea or a backroom image of handhelds in testing.  It seems they have however plugged the “leak” with there new GBA inspired RG34XX Linux handheld.

If you don’t know how Anbernic names their handhelds this one tells us it has a 3.4” screen. This screen at 720×480, 4:3 makes it a 3x Picture Perfect display for GBA. Which makes sense because it looks like well… a GBA. 

Also assuming they haven’t updated the SOC in the line of XX handhelds we can also assume this will support the H700 SOC we have seen in oodles of handhelds from Anbernic this year. This is more than enough to emulate GameBoy Advance and as a bonus also probably will include the likes of Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, some N64 and non joystick welding PSP. 

There has been a race to GBA playing handhelds staring with Anbernic’s RG35xxSP earlier in the year. Though not the correct ratio display, Anbernic made up for that with a sleek GBA bezel that brought back all the nostalgia. That was the first followed up by Powkiddy’s budget 2x Picture Perfect V10 and Ayaneos 4x Picture Perfect Pocket Micro. The RG34xx fits right between the last two when it comes to resolution.

This is all welcome to me as the GBA is my favorite Retro Console to emulate on handhelds. It will be interesting to see if sales of the RG34xx will suffer from the release of the Miyoo Flip in a couple of weeks? I will have a review for the Miyoo Flip up soon so stay tuned.

I wonder if this will bring back all the feels like the Anbernic RG35xxSP?
