NEW Anbernic RG34XXSP has NEW SOC

The Anbernic RG35xxSP has been on many lists for favorite handheld of 2024. It only makes sense that they would come out up a New more Powerful version. Here is what we know so far. Though I was hoping for an RG40xxSP keeping it smaller makes sense with the current market.

Though it isn’t much by the name alone the RG34xxSP will have a smaller 3.4” screen. This may allow them to make significant changes to the overall body size even though the display may not be noticeably smaller . One of the biggest complaints about the current RG35xxSP is it being significantly larger than the Game Boy Advance SP. This makes the handheld though a clamshell harder to put in your pocket. There is a good chance that the 720×480 display will be use from the RG34xx that has 3X Picture Perfect GBA resolution.

The other thing we know is Anbernic will finally be moving away from the H700 SOC to a more powerful chipset. With the Miyoo Flip releasing with the RK3566 CPU it was only a matter of time before Anbernic decided it was time to make their handhelds more powerful. With the RG34xxSP likely directly competing with the Miyoo Flip it makes sense that they would start with this handheld to pump up the power.

We don’t however know which SOC that Anbernic has chosen to go with. Oddly they were dual booting Android/Linux on the RK3566 a couple years ago with the RG353V so I’ve always found it odd that they went away from that chipset. They were definitely ahead of their time as the rest of the industry is just starting to embrace the RK3566. Anbernic will probably use some sort of A15 to make it about 20% faster than the RK3566.

Prior to posting I get to update: it looks like lower end handhelds going forward from Anbernic will be equipped with the RK3566 / T618. This was posted by user JogiJat over on Reddit.

I think it is safe to say they will probably reach into another AllWinner or Dimensity SOC assuming they can get ahold of it for the right price. Anbernic is if nothing else a creature of habit and they tend to stick with chipset manufacturers they have had luck with for better or worse. I would assume the RG34xxSP will also have video out because other than the RG28XX their handheld line doesn’t seem to exclude the ability to use their handhelds as a console. With these perimeters it still leaves a host of chipset as possibilities. As I get more information I’ll let you know.

In the meantime I’ll be checking the blog on Anbernic’s website throughout the days until they make the RG35xxSP official.

Do you think the Anbernic RG34xxSP is a good idea? What SOC do you think they will include?
