Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and Pocket Classic Pre-Order and Discounts Revealed

Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and Pocket Classic Pre-Order and Discounts Revealed

Some of the questions we have been impatiently waiting for from Retroid around the long awaited Pocket Flip 2 and Pocket Classic have finally been answered. I say finally like it’s been more than 2 weeks since Retroid started drip feeding us info on these 2 handhelds.

The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is going to come in 2 different variants. One with the Snapdragon SD865 found in the Retroid Pocket 5 and Retroid Pocket Mini. The other option will be to get the Flip 2 with the slightly less performant Dimensity D1100 SOC found in the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. There will be a $30 up charge to get the Flip 2 with the SD865 and in all honesty I can’t come up with any reason that the D1100 version exists. Possibly Retroid has a pile of D1100s sitting in a warehouse they need to move which so they added them discounted to help clear some space by making it more appealing.

The Retroid Pocket Classic will be released with a Qualcomm 4nm SOC that host 4GB LPDDR4x RAM at 2133m and 64GB EMMC 5.1. What does all this mean you ask? We don’t exactly know yet. One would assume it’s an older Snapdragon processor but at 4nm and included active cooling it’s really hard to say. It is very possible and likely that the Pocket Classic will be supported by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 as this is the lowest spec current 4nm chipset that meets the description. It’s like Retroid left us this Easter egg to keep us talking about the Pocket Classic, but we should know soon however as pre-orders begin shortly.

Starting March 17Th at 9:30EST the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and Pocket Classic will be up for pre-order. The retail price of the Flip 2 with the SD865 is $229 while the Classic tops out at $129 with 6gb of RAM and 128GB of ROM and all color variants. You will save $10 by pre-ordering the devices during their early bird period on IndieGoGo and $30 if you bundle the 2 together for a mere $328 during that same time.

Pricing seems inline with the Retroid Pocket 5. I am still curious how the Pocket Classic is going to perform, mostly is it going to be overpowered for a vertical handheld lacking joysticks. Seems by leaving the joysticks off they aren’t going after the Ayaneo Pocket DMG.

I think the Pocket Classic has an opportunity to put companies like Anbernic (who oddly hasn’t had a 2025 release after their 12 last year) on their back foot by including a Snapdragon chipset in a device that falls inline with their higher end handhelds. The year started off being about SOC such as the RK3566 and A133P but this might open the floodgates for more efficient affordable Snapdragon handhelds in the market.
