If you feel like it has been a while since we last got an update for ES-DE on Android… the wait it over.
If you aren’t familiar with Emulation Station-Desktop Edition it might be time to check it out. The developer has created a user friendly “frontend” environment for launching your games. Similar to apps like Daijisho, Beacon, Console Launcher or any of the dozens of other launchers.
ES-DE is an especially welcoming option for gamers moving over to Android handhelds from Linux where Emulation Station is the built in launcher to many different OS builds. The purpose is to make the game launching experience seamless. When you have an easier to use interface to find your games and clicking on a title it opens the correct application to make them play that is due to the use of a front end. I guess unless you do all this in Retroarch but that isn’t always a real friendly experience.
Whats New
On top of everything that ES-DE already does for us there is a few notable additions/updates added to the change log by the developer: (update 3.3.0-48)
- Built in game importer tool
- Makes it possible to import Android Games, Apps and Emulators into ES-DE to launch within the app
- Sega Model 3 was enabled through MAME
- Be aware system support is not yet mature and may take time before games run smoothly]
- MAME4droid 2024 was removed since was renamed to MAME4droid
- Replaced entries with new name in update ES-DE 3.2.0-45
- You may see an error when loading up stating invalid emulator
- This can be fixed by going into Alternate Emulators in the Other Settings menu
- Games list on Startup has been changed to 2 separate menus
- New menus System on Startup and Startup View
- 4 new Languages were added
ES-DE offers so much more than what is listed here. Your best bet is to head to their Patron where you can get further details and download it if you are interested.
