Nintendo is Raising Prices on 7yr Old Legacy Switch Consoles

It’s really no surprise with tariffs going into effect on August 1st to see Nintendo raising their prices.

It’s pretty well known Nintendo won’t eat any part of the cost of their devices in order to sell them. What is weird is that the current generation Switch’s are staying at the current pricing while last generation is raising.

Devices Raising

This is completely the opposite pricing structure to every gaming system I’ve used in my life where you often continue to pay less for consoles as the generation goes on. This has been great all the way through last generation when companies made smaller, more powerful consoles the closer they got to end of life and they were made more affordable as well.

Nintendo is raising prices not only on first gen Switch 1 LCD consoles, but also the OLED, Lite and accessories that go with them. This seems so off the mark to me.

Pricing

The new pricing was accidentally updated at Target before being correct with current pricing prior to increase. If you want to get one of these handhelds get them now, unless you are awaiting a Switch 2 which is staying the same…for now.

The new pricing is as follows according to Wario64 on X:

  • Switch LCD: $299.99 + $40 =$339.99
  • Switch Lite: $199.99 + $30=$229.99
  • Switch OLED: $349.99 + $50 =$399.99
  • Alarmo: $99.99 + $10=$109.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Controllers $95 +$5=$100
  • Switch accessories: Various Increases

This new pricing makes the Switch 2 only $50 more than a last generation Switch OLED. It does appear however that Target jumped the gun as these prices aren’t set to increase until August 3rd.

If anything about this changes I’ll update you.

There is definitely going to be some upset fans out there but Nintendo shows time and time again that they don’t really care. They are here to make a profit and have shareholders to answer too.

If Nintendo decides to back down after listening to the fan outrage I’ll keep you posted.
