Switch Emulator Eden Removed from Google PlayStore

Switch Emulator Eden Removed from Google PlayStore

Unfortunately it was only a matter of time before popular Nintendo Switch emulator Eden was going to be removed from the Google Play Store, but it’s not all bad news.

When the developers at Eden put their Switch emulator in Google Play it gave us pause for concern [article here]over the future of the emulator. In the past this has caused a slew of DMCA’s and lawsuits from Nintendo.

So far it’s not all doom and gloom as Eden has remained available for download on their GitHub. The website is also still up and it appears last night they redirected the Google Play download back to their GitHub as yesterday it was a dead link.

Eden offers Switch emulation for Windows, MacOS, Linux and Android. This pretty much covers you across the spectrum of operating systems with the exception of iOS.

In the past when an emulator was removed by Nintendo from the Google Play Store the website has also been taken down in a similar DMCA. This has been especially a concern I voiced in an article recently as Eden runs on the back of the once popular Yuzu emulator dismantled by Nintendo.

Eden has often stated that they removed and rebuilt portions of the emulator that allowed Nintendo to takedown the Yuzu version they forked from. The fact that they are still online might mean Nintendo hasn’t yet figured out a way to remove them.

To be cautious however it might be a good idea to make sure you have backups of Eden incase it does get pulled. If there is one thing we have learned from this happening in the past is that Nintendo has Eden on their radar.

Do you use Eden to emulate Nintendo Switch or is there another emulator you like more? Or do you just not emulate Nintendo Switch because you can still buy the games?
