We knew there was something coming and Retroid just dropped 2 new handhelds that begin shipping this week.
They will be releasing the All New Retroid G2 and the Retroid Pocket 6 both shipping before the end of the year. They both also have early discounts for early adapters and share a lot with the RP5.

Retroid Pocket 6
The Retroid Pocket 6 has split ship dates that vary based on color. Of course they brought back the popular GameCube colorway, but we are we are also seeing the introduction of the Switch Lite Green, Yellow and a Lavender as well.
The Retroid Pocket 6 will come with a Snapdragon SD8Gen2 that you currently can find in the Ayn Odin 2. You are also getting a 5.5” AMOLED display and 8/12GB LPDDR5x RAM with 128GB/256GB USF3.1 ROM variants. The DPad and face buttons appear to have come from the Ayn Odin 2 Mini.

Pricing on the RP6 is:
- 8GB/128GB Early Bird $208 & Retail $229
- 12GB/256GB Early Bird $259 & Retail $279

Retroid G2
The Retroid G2 will be shipping at 2 different dates based on the colors you choose. Most ship 10/29 and the Switch Green and Yellow ship 11/5. You also get the GameCube colorway here along with White w/ skittle buttons and Black.
The name on the Retroid G2 gives away the handhelds chipset as it’s rocking the Snapdragon SDG2Gen2. You also get a 5.5” AMOLED display, 8GB LPDDR5x RAM, an Adreno A22 GPU and Android 15.

You will be able to get an Early Bird deal for $199 on the Retroid G2 and a $219 Retail price thereafter.
Thoughts
The New Retroid Pocket 6 and G2 appear to be one of the first true handheld “updates” aside from the Retroid Pocket 2 from Retroid. The only obvious differences at first glance are the SOCs being used in each handheld when it comes to the Retroid G2.
I think it’s safe to assume the G2 is using the same 5.5” 1080p AMOLED display, HallEffect joysticks, DPad and face buttons as the Retroid Pocket 5. The battery on the RP5 is 5000mAh, same as the Retroid G2.

The RP6 has an upgraded SOC to the Snapdragon SD8Gen2, 6000mAh battery and relocated menu buttons now located in a row along the bottom of the handhelds face. The face also appears to have more of an outward facing bubble design.
The ergonomics also look more aggressive on the back of the RP6, likely allowing for more comfort without adding a TPS cover. Ergonomics were my biggest complaint about the RP5.
I think these are all welcome improvements. The Retroid G2 getting a more powerful SOC and the RO6 getting the above listed subtle but welcome upgrades. With the popularity of the Retroid Pocket 5 too many changes could have lead to a chaotic release. I am wondering how the G2 looking so much like the RP5 will affect its sales?

These handhelds are going to be ready to purchase any time now as shipping begins in just a couple days from the announcement. Hit the button below to grab one or both of these up for yourself.

Are you picking up one or both of these new Retroid handhelds? Do you think they are too similar to the RP5?
