New Adreno Drivers for Snapdragon 8 Elite Gaming Handhelds

To start these are very early Adreno 8xx driver builds that have just become available.

I think its safe to say anyone coming from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2/3 or even the Snapdragon 865 has been disappointed in the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Elite in emulation for some systems like PS3, Nintendo Switch, WiiU etc. Pretty much anything that relied on Adreno drivers to get optimal performance has been lacking.

Luckily in a lot of instances the SD8 Elite is powerful enough to push through with the raw power of the SOCs. This might not be needed much longer.

What

It was announced that preliminary Adreno drivers are in testing for the SD 8 Elite with good results in some instances. This is very much in the infant stage so it will take some time to match the performance we are seeing with other Snapdragon processors.

One thing the SD8 Elite has been really good at is emulation of PC games with the use of GameHub and GameNative applications. Though we haven’t seen as much of a struggle with playing Steam libraries with this more powerful SOC, the drivers will also be welcomed here to help prevent occasional tearing and to get games that don’t boot to possibly start working. I know I have seen mixed results with games like Hotline Miami for example depending on the device.

Where

These drivers are ahead of schedule as just a couple of months ago it was said that developers were likley a year away from even trying to tackle this SOCs performance. I’m not sure what changed but its a welcome one.

If you would like to try these drivers they can be found on the K11MCH1 GitHub along with the other popular drivers used with other Adreno GPUs. The drivers mentioned in this article are v26.0.0 R8 v26.0.0- Revision 8 + super beta 8XX support. Take the time to read the notes and learn about the advancement of these drivers. For example they seem to work with x86 (PC) games but not yet with Switch emulation.

Make sure to set your expectations correctly however as it might be that year timeline before we see any meaningful improvements in driver development. As a side note we are also seeing some improvements in driver development for MediaTek processors right now too thanks to developer collaboration with GameHub and MediaTek.

Ayaneo Konkr Pocket Fit & Ayn Odin 3

Watch For

This is all great news for gamers. We have seen a couple of affordable SD8 Elite devices drop in 2025 with the Ayn Odin 3, Ayaneo Konkr Pocket Fit Elite, the Lenovo Legion Y700 (Gen 4 2025) and some others. I would expect to see even more in 2026 especially if we see growing support for their Adreno 830 GPUs.

Keep an eye out for updates as well as sales for the Snapdragon 8 Elite devices as we have seen price increases recently due to the RAM shortages [thanks AI]. Companies like Ayn have halted 2nd batch Odin 3’s and Ayaneo hasn’t even begun less set a date for filling the Konkr Fit Elite handhelds [likely not due to the shortage].

We have reviews in the works for the Snapdragon 8 Elite devices listed above which should be out shortly… well all but the Ayaneo Konkr Pocket Fit Elite which hasn’t gotten an update since crowed funding began.

Do you have a Snapdragon 8 Elite device you are waiting on driver support for? Are you more likely to get a SD8 Elite device with knowing driver support is in the works even without knowing the results?
