Anbernic Listens: Releasing RG SP

Anbernic Listens: Releasing RG SP

We often wonder how much companies like Anbernic are listening to gamers and now we get an answer.

With the releases of the Anbernic RG 35xxSP and RG 34xxSP there were a lot of requests from gamers to make them more like the GBA SP. Requests like less “five head”, removal of the joysticks, make it smaller, etc.

Anbernic actually listened and seemingly is delivering with a new RG SP. The model numbers are gone and so is the “five head”.

Specs

As far as specs go from what we know the Anbernic RG SP uses the same SOC as the RG34xxSP [H700 CPU]. The question is what RAM configuration does it come with; 2GB [release], 1GB [RAMpocalypse] or the illusive random 512GB [that isn’t supposed to exist, blame the vendors (wink)].

The Anbernic RG SP is also 10% thinner along with that 25% thinner top bezel. This will make the handheld lighter and also have less bezel to break immersion.

When

Sticking with Anbernic’s leak to release time table we will see this device available for order really soon. If I were to guess I would put pre-order orders out within the next week [probably the 30th-31st around 5am].

I don’t have insider info on the release but Anbernic seems ready to get this device to market ASAP. Really they seem to wanting to beat Ayaneo’s new GBA emulator.

Thoughts

We will be picking this up day 1. It’s really hard to not support a device built off fan feedback and honestly they are building exactly what we asked for. It’s interesting to see Anbernic racing to get this GBA clone out prior to Ayaneo’s Pocket Fit Advance which was also recently announced.

The Pocket Fit Advance will have a 3:2 display and body to mimic the OG GBA which means we might get getting the best of all Gameboy Advance emulators around the same time.

We think the Anbernic RG SP will compete directly with the Miyoo Mini Flip for room in your pocket and we’re here for it. Like the RG28XX it will be overpowered without sticks, but that allows it to be true to its original self.

We are a little bummed in the color choices here from Anbernic, but at least the Black and Silver were OEM releases.

It’s exciting to see Anbernic correcting their SP releases with a more true to form device. Hit the link below to checkout the Anbernic Blog if you want updates directly from the source.

Are you going to pickup the Anbernic RG SP or are you waiting for something else?
