RG40xxH another New Anbernic Emulation Handheld w/ an unoriginal SoC
I’m actually pretty excited for the new Anbernic RG40xxH which looks like a more powerful TrimUI Smart Pro. I first however need to get something off my chest before I go through the possibilities of this, you guessed it H700 handheld.
Anbernic has in the past found a handful of different SoC’s and found creative ways to use them amongst their handheld lineup. In 2024 it appears Anbernic doesn’t have a warehouse but instead an entire shipping yard filled with H700 chipsets in piles that can no longer support their own weight. I’m not sure what the number is that Anbernic stops using this SoC but for the sake of boredom I’m over here waiting impatiently. I’m not even sure if I am going to continue reviewing these handhelds as other than formfactor and possibly battery size they all operate exactly the same.
This new release will make 7 or 8 devices Anbernic has launch in 2024 that are becoming difficult to find anything exciting to talk about. The only changes we have seen is 2 handhelds (RG28xx & RG35xx “+/2024”) that they seemingly forgot to put the WiFi modules in. That’s correct the only changes are removing one of the most valuable features these gremlins multiplying like they are in a water puddle have.
Do we even need to discuss the naming convention they are going with? Yes it makes sense but the fact that reviewers are starting to give these new handhelds nicknames before they release to the public is proof enough that they lack originality.
That all aside I am excited for the Anbernic RG40xxH to be a RG35xxH with a bigger screen. The RG35xxH is one of my favorite of this handheld line (click here if you want to see one I modified) and the TrimUI Smart Pro is one of my favorite handhelds which this looks very much like. To get a more powerful TrimUI Smart Pro will be nice and Anbernic must have such a bulk buy on this H700 SoC that they should be pretty affordable. The TrimUI Smart Pro feels a lot like a Vita in hand so I’m hoping for a similar experience here.
If you are wondering how it will perform I would say pretty good. No need to review performance past the battery, joysticks and dpad just peep the gameplay footage of one of the other half dozen handhelds mentioned before. I do as always also wonder how the screen is going to look. If they want to try and make something different this might be an opportunity to try making an Android device with its bigger screen.
I’m keeping my eyes open for their 2024 updates to Anbernics other devices lineups. Could we get a RG406M, RG354V, or an RG Arc2? There are some others I’m watching for but these seem to be the most promising to be updated and hopefully have a different chipsets.
Once this becomes available I’ll update this post with how to pickup the Anbernic RG40xxH.
Are you excited about the Anbernic RG40xxH or will you be waiting for something innovative down the pipe?
