[UPDATES] New Retroid Pocket Duo | All Updates, Updated!

If you have been looking for updates and info on the Retroid Pocket Duo you are in the right place.

We will focus on updating the points below that we use for a base when starting a handheld review as the information becomes available.

As of posting we know the Pocket Duo has a Qualcomm DragonWing Q-7790 [Snapdragon 7 Gen4] and Adreno 722 GPU. DragonWing is the IoT version of the SOC as they have removed the mobile network modem and camera functionality. In theory removing these should help the chip perform better along with the addition of active cooling preventing thermal throttling.

The displays both top and bottom being AMOLED with the top being 5.5” 16:9 [RP6 maybe?] and the bottom being the a beautiful 4.5” 4:3 display [Nova]. This brings in that 4:3 display to the bottom many Ayn Thor customers have been asking for.

We are still waiting on pricing and memory options [which will affect pricing]. To keep w/in Retroid’s typical pricing position we expect the Pocket Duo to retail for around $239.99 with a -$10 Early Bird pre-order special bringing the Duo to $229.99. This is a hard number to nail down thanks to fluctuating market conditions, but w/in $10 will keep it competitive with the Thor w/out stepping on Ayn’s toes.

The Retroid Pocket Duo will be more powerful than the SD865 in the RP5 it will be a great option for high resolution 3DS gameplay and beyond in many cases.

We will continue to update this page as we get more information. Retroid appears to be getting ready to open up pre-orders soon as they are dropping specs faster than normal.

I think if they can get the Pocket Duo to a retail price of $239.99 with the addition of an early bird discount it’ll be sitting right in the sweat spot. Less expensive than an Nintendo 3DS XL in today’s market and plenty powerful to emulate 3DS games.
