Ready for a New TrimUI Smart Pro Mini?

The TrimUI Smart Pro has been a very popular, high quality Retro Handheld with a near cult following and it might be getting smaller.

With its PS Vita inspired size and design the TSP (TrimUI Smart Pro) has turned out to be a very popular device after releasing to a slow start. The current version of the TSP differs slightly from the launch model.

OG TSP

I know myself and others found the bumper triggers to be extremely stiff when doing our pre-launch reviews. I’ve been fortunate enough to review the current TSP models as well. You can find my review here and here. It was actually one of the first retro handhelds I reviewed for my channel.

The TrimUI Smart Pro was the first major release to use the A133P SOC that we see in many releases over the past year. Those releases include the little brother to the TSP the TrimUI Brick.

Keeping the same power, the TrimUI Brick became a near instant success. Following the high build quality of the TSP the Brick even comes with a metal backplate installed.

New TrimUI’s

With the following of the new TrimUI Brick we have seen companies such as MechDIY begin to offer custom engraving services for the precision cut metal rear section. There is also a new full metal shell “Brick Hammer” that has been introduced and will begin shipping shortly.

Now thanks to a patent leak it appears that TrimUI is making yet another iteration to the TSP Retro Handheld Emulator. This new TSP is inlayed with all the known TrimUI logos throughout the entire body, this matches past releases by TrimUI.

Features

There also appears to be active cooling judging by the ventilation opening on the back of the device. Other similarities include… pretty much every aspect of the handheld. There even appears to be a vent cutout in the shape of a logo on the back.

The only obvious change that has us thinking we are looking at a new handheld is the size. TrimUI did make the “Smart” which is a considerably smaller TSP adjacent device. The Smart lacks specific features like the active cooling or whatever the vent on the back is not seen in other TrimUI handhelds however.

We have a full 360deg view of this new handheld and I think it’s safe to say we are looking at a TrimUI Smart Mini of sorts. I’m sure I’m missing some other differences while inspecting the images, but I’m really not seeing any if those. Even the 3.5mm audio hole and SD slot are located in the same place. I don’t recall the TSP having a place for a lanyard so that also may be a new feature added to the lower left corner here.

There isn’t a lot more info on this New TrimUI Smart Mini handheld of sorts. Patent leaks don’t tend to be well curated as internal leaks in this hobby. It does however appear to have a 4:3 display unlike the current 16:9 on the TSP. This should be a solid middle ground that many who emulate will be happy with.

Pricing

It’s always hard to nail down pricing, especially when we don’t know the SOC being used for a device. Using TrimUI’s current pricing model would put this handheld around $50-$60. That said if they have updated A133P SOC we could expect it to be $70-$80. It’s hard to see TrimUI sell a handheld for more than that as they are known for high quality budget friendly handhelds.
