More NEW News: Game Boy Advance clone from Anbernic

With the New Game Boy Advance clone coming out from Anbernic we seem to be starting to get information “Leaked” after the official announcement. Like I stated in a previous write up (New 3X Resolution Game Boy Advance: Anbernic RG34XX) we typically get these types of things about a week before the reveal and maybe we did but nobody noticed because it looks very much like an actual GBA. There also must be a lot of interest in the RG34XX as Anbernic’s website is less than crawling since they added the handheld to it. Assuming that is traffic related anyways.

Anbernic took a lot of care in the details in the design of the RG34XX. They even went as far as to color match the X and Y buttons on the front of the handheld to make them disappear into the shell. The precision of this seems so well done that you don’t even notice them past the highlighted A and B buttons. If you are unaware the original GBA didn’t include X and Y. Another show of attention to detail is the Start and Select buttons. Not only does it say what they are for, but they also include the original indentations where the text is inlaid. Everything down to the OG powerlight in the upper right corner on the face of the handheld, the battery door, sticker location/size on the back (I’m sure we will see GBA stickers on Etsy for the RG34XX) and screw holes look like a 1 for 1 match. The one thing that seems to be missing is the monster bezels around the screen and I’m personally ok with that.

The RG34XX seems to be a relatively thick handheld. No they didn’t add a cartridge slot but instead smartly used that space to place the trigger buttons. I am not sure if these handheld triggers are considered inline or stacked but they did a good job incorporating them into the design. The triggers will unfortunately likely be micro switches but that is an understandable sacrifice to help keep the design true and pocketability of the handheld intact. Next to the triggers we can also see dual Micro SD slots. Assuming one is for the OS and the other for Games. Next to them is also the HDMI out and DC/OTG port.

I think at this point it is safe to assume the Anbernic RG34XX is supported but the H700 SOC. All the cosmos are aligning on this. I would have liked to see Anbernic release this new XX handheld with a new SOC. That said, we know the reliability of the H700. Anbernic has built a solid stock firmware for it and we know GBA is a rockstar on this chipset. No other SOC really would have made any sense this late into 2024.

I think it is also safe to assume that the Anbernic RG34XX will be released for sale sometime in the next week. It normally is around a week after Anbernic does a showcase before they begin sales. We will probably see a discount in the first 3 or so days of release. This is a tricky handheld to guess the price on but due to the probable H700 SOC I would guess somewhere between $55-$65. That would fall in line with Anbernic’s other handhelds and allow them to discount the handheld for the early birds on release. Here is Anbernic’s Blog about the RG34XX

How do you feel the Anbernic RG34XX is coming together? When do you think it will be released?

As always once I know more you will know more.
