The Anbernic RG Slide might be one of the most exciting Retro Handhelds announce this year so far.

With the unique sliding mechanics previously found in the PSP Go, Sony Xperia and the Sidekick bringing something New to the Retro Handheld space. It’s hard to say how anticipated it is as it appeared seemingly out of nowhere about a week ago, but it’s getting a lot of attention.
We have a few more details we thought we would share on the RG Slide thanks to a second teaser from Anbernic. There is going to be a lot of questions around the screen so I’m going to try and answer those here.
RG Slide Display

The Anbernic RG Slide is going to be equipped with a 4.7” BOE IPS Display. The screen takes advantage of LTPS (low temperature polycrystalline silicon) with a 1280×960 4:3 aspect ratio. The RG Slide display is also equipped with multi-touch and aiming for 500nits of brightness. The display rocks 120Hz refresh rate which may allow for black screen insertion.

How this brakes down per system:
- PS2, NeoGeo Color, Dreamcast and Will:
- 640×480
- 2X pixel-to-pixel
- N64 and PS1
- 320×240
- 4X pixel-to-pixel
(I’ll try and put some more together and update the list)
Capabilities
The Anbernic RG Slide will be running AndroidOS and be powerful enough to emulate PS2 and play Genshine Impact. They aren’t showing off WiiU emulation like they did on the RG557 however I still think this will likely have the D8300 SOC.

Anbernic is already using the D8300 in the RG557. This would give it the rumored cellular capabilities, though I still think that might be a pipe dream. The D8300 is however proving to be a powerful no-nonsense SOC for emulation.
Unlike the Snapdragon processors in competitor devices, the Dimensity allows for emulation with little to no tweaks needing to be made by the user. Games either play or they don’t. But when they play, it’s normally at 3-4X resolution. This is a solid solution for those who are new to the space and non-tinkerers alike.
Hardware
The Anbernic RG Slide obviously slides. It looks to be on a similar rail system you see in things like the PS Go. I know the Sony Xperia had some issues in a similar system so hopefully this one is ok.

We also know we are looking at a handheld with dual-joysticks and not dual-screens. I know some will be disappointed but that second screen would have been pretty tiny in order to fit the buttons.
There is in-line shoulders / triggers that lineup under the screen when the RG Slide is open. The D-Pd appears similar to what we find in something like the Anbernic RG35xxH and the face buttons are similar as well.

Start and Select buttons located center bottom between the joysticks. The volume buttons are located on the right side along with what is likely the power or reset button. On the bottom you will find a 3.5mm headphone hole and microSD card hole. I can’t tell if it is a hole for reset (which makes sense if the right side button is power) or a mic hole. There doesn’t appear to be a menu/home button which might be ok due to the touchscreen?

I’m sure we will see this on Anbernic’s blog shortly if it isn’t already up by the time you read this.
