If you were one of the people who wrote me to tell me that I was wrong when I posted there is an Anbernic RG DS coming… I’m totally not going to say I Told You So!
Anbernic officially teased their sub $100 RG DS this morning in a teaser trailer on YouTube per the usual. As expected we got to see the device hinge flexing in a render of the handheld.
The big news here is Anbernic coming out saying the RG DS will release at sub $100USD. That’s going to make it the most affordable Dual-Screen Retro Handheld to release in this 2025 whirlwind of DS handhelds.
Performance
Keeping it priced around the $100 mark leaves us questioning the SOC being used. It’s safe to say it won’t be an H700 with the lack of XX in the name.
It’s possible that Anbernic will go with something like the T618 or T620 chipset. I initially thought T820 when it first leaked in my article, I think that would make it more than $100 however.
Thoughts
2025 is shapping up to be the year of Hinged Handhelds whether flip or dual-screen and I’m here for it. Not only does it change up the possibilities but also makes handhelds more pocketable by hiding the screen (helps protect the display).
The Blue and Red Anbernic RG DS also bring back all the memories of the NDS. Those colors in the renders look spot on to the releases by Nintendo.
