Introducing Anbernic’s 2025 RG34xxSP: Key Features

Introducing Anbernic’s 2025 RG34xxSP: Key Features

Anbernic was an absolute force to be reckoned with in 2024 and has been mostly absent in 2025. That is all about to change.

It looks like Anbernic was just gearing up to start it’s tri-weekly release schedule again in 2025. We saw Anbernic release 12 handhelds in 2024 with the RG557 being their first today in 2025. Even though it’s almost May it appears Anbernic is prepared to release 10 handhelds this year.

Next we should see 2 handheld releases next month, one of which is the long rumored RG34xxSP (which I wrote about here). A smaller version of the RG35xxSP to directly compete with the Miyoo Flip. We should also see the RG34xxSP sporting the 3x Picture Perfect GBA Display from the RG34xx. This would make a more pocket friendly Flip option from Anbernic that is also supposed to be the first XX handheld with a New SOC.

We don’t yet know what SOC is going to be in the new XX devices but I think it’s safe to assume it is going to be more powerful. I’ve been saying for a while that I believe that changing SOCs has tripped Anbernic up with their StockOS offering.

It took a while but Anbernic arguably now has one of the best StockOS offerings in the market. From personal experience I can confirm that it is more than usable compared to their previous offering. Infact the terrible OS was a blessing when you look back at it.

People wanted more causing developers to hit the ground running producing a plethora of custom firmware options for each of Anbernics handhelds. GarlicOS for the original RG35XX became the gold standard.

When Black Sheref failed to release GarlicOS 2.0 in 2024 it all but forced Anbernic to come up with an in-house solution. This has been yet another blessing for the community and those who aren’t comfortable loading custom firmware into their handhelds.

Hopefully Anbernic locked the StockOS down for their new SOC. I can only assume they had to build it from the ground up.

So what CPU are they using in the 2025 XX handhelds? That is a question we will have an answer to shortly as the “leaks” for the RG34xxSP start dropping in the coming weeks.

I like the RG35xxSP but it really is oddly sized for a clamshell handheld. After some revisions the hinges stopped breaking and a little Fishpaper has helped prevent fires from spreading while charging. I think that 3.4″ screen is going to cement its place in handheld top charts for a lot of gamers.

Are you interested in the RG34xxSP? Do you think it will be better than the Miyoo Flip and RG35xxSP?

Lots of exciting handhelds coming from Anbernic this year if they can stick to the plan. I’ll keep you posted as I learn more. If you want to stay even more up to date you can also Checkout Anbernics Site.
