New GKD Little isn’t Tiny

New GKD Little isn’t Tiny

The GKD Little seems to have been reborn… but it’s not really that little.

If you aren’t familiar with the GKD Little it was a project that was in the works some time ago. I’m not sure why it got mothballed or why it got resurrected but I’m here for it.

GKD might have been waiting for the right screen or possibly available SOC in order to get this project to market. If we focus on the screen it seems to be supporting a display that is about to appear in a whole bunch of handhelds.

The screen originally seen in the KTR1 has had the community impatiently waiting for other handhelds to pick it up. This is because it is a 4.5” 1620×1080 3:2 IPS display. Some would argue that this is the best dimensions for retro gaming, or at least near perfect in many cases. The display also seems to be making an appearance in the Powkiddy RGB50 and Ayaneo Pocket Ace. All three handhelds slated to launch around the same time.

There are no details as of now on what CPU will be in the Little. It is said to play Dreamcast and Sega Saturn so it could be the RK3566 maybe with 2GB of RAM or something similar. GKD is familiar with the RK3566 as they used it in their recent handheld that mirrors the Sega GameGear, the GKD Bubble.

The Little seems to share the ergonomics of the GameBoy Advance with the addition of a joystick. It’s not surprising that the joystick is included as more recent systems to emulate since the release of the PS1 come with joysticks. The single stick does make it difficult to look around in 3D games but that might not be what they are aiming for (giggity).

Right now we have no idea if GKD is going to continue the Little past the design concept stage or if it was brought back just to mockup how the screen would look.

Right now we will keep this in the rumor category until there is more news. If that comes we’ll be looking for pricing and a release date. One thing I do think I say with confidence is that it will likely be cheaper than the Ayaneo Pocket Ace that it will share a screen with if released.

If I find out more I’ll keep you posted
