The TrimUI Brick is by far my favorite EDC device that has come out in the last year, as I know it is for many others.
You can imagine my surprise while scrolling through AliExpress when I came across what appears to be a TrimUI Brick equipped with Switch style joysticks. Though I think this might be TrimUI’s next move for the Brick after they fill Brick Hammer (metal Brick) orders, the handheld mentioned is not made by TrimUI.
What
The L35 is a clone of the TrimUI Brick with the addition of joysticks. This new handheld appears to be part of the open source R36 project we have seen so many different handhelds come from the last nearly 2 years.
Though it looks more like the Brick than the R36S, under the surface it appears to be more of the same. Yet this handheld has me intrigued due to my love of the Brick. They even include what appear to be the additional function buttons that I want to know if they are functional.

Build
Keeping with the more square body of the Brick the L35 appears to have bigger buttons and D-Pad. This makes sense if they are keeping with the R36S internal build. Not surprising there are 2 SD card slots here.
Power
This leaves me to assume that the L35 is using the less powerful Rockchip RK3326 SOC found in the R36S. The Brick uses the Allinner A133P SOC found in many new devices since the release of the TrimUI Smart Pro. This SOC is loved by most and hated by some mostly because of how warm the chip gets under heavy load. The RK3326 doesn’t dissipate nearly as much external heat.

Where
You can find the L35 on AliExpress for multiple sellers right now ranging from $39USD – $55USD. I will include a link here incase you want to pick up the L35.
[If you decide to buy the L35 use promo code: IFPPSSD and save an additional $5 off $39. If you pickup the Brick from MechDIY use code: RetroSpecd16 and save 16% off your order.]
I haven’t decided for sure but I think I might pick one of these up for review. We already know how well it will perform but there looks to be some differences in the OS in the images they posted from other R36 devices. I would also like to compare the build quality.
If I decide to pickup the L35 I’ll be sure to post a review for you.
In the mean time is the L35 a handheld that interests you? If so are you picking it up?

These look really sharp ! The yellow and white ones are the ones I’m looking to buy
They do look good. It was smart to copy an already good looking handheld. I’m going to order a couple for review, trying to decide if I want to order colors that match the Brick to see how close the colors are.
