If you have been waiting for a true Miyoo Mini v4 successor, the wait is finally almost over.
Images of a Miyoo Mini Flip have been circulating since shortly after the Miyoo Flip release. The twist here is that it’s a true Miyoo Mini in Flip form.
Rumored to use the same internals and screen as the Miyoo Mini v4 albeit with a hinge. This will make for a fairly small flip handheld, much more so than the current Miyoo Flip rocking joysticks.
On the Official Miyoo Instagram you can see a bunch of photos of what looks to be a light pink Miyoo Mini Flip.
What to expect
We are expecting to see the ARM Cortex-A7 1.2GHz SOC, 2.8” 750×560 IPS Display, 128MB RAM, 2000mAh battery and likely multiple versions over time due to screen availability (wink) from the Miyoo Flip v4. The buttons and DPad appear to be from the current Miyoo Flip which work fine and will be needed for clearance from the screen when closed.
Due to the specs matching the Miyoo Mini v4 we will likely see compatibility with the now famous OnionOS. OnionOS arguably was a transformative addition to the Retro Handheld hobby that we haven’t seen since the Miyoo Mini Plus. I would hope for screen close functionality at launch, but not expect it to be there with OnionOS.
Thoughts
This is a small big deal for the Retro Handheld Hobby. The Miyoo Mini v4 was recently discontinued, possibly to make room for this new version.
This will sell well to enthusiasts no matter the build quality. I looking forward to testing the hinge in review as I’m hoping Miyoo has addressed the issues with the current Flip.
The 4 colors aren’t real exciting but are; White, Pink, Yellow and Gray, whats missing is the translucent blue color which I think would be a big seller. The button colors look to match the current Miyoo Flip. At least it looks like we are getting the better v4 yellow this time around.
I think this is what most of us wanted when Miyoo originally announced a Flip handheld back in 2023 and I’m here for it. I’m checking diligently to see if new info is released so come back for more of that (I see Retro Handhelds put out a good article while this article was in draft).
