Retroid Pocket Mini V2 is Here…

Retroid Pocket Mini V2 is Here…

The Retroid Pocket Mini was the talk of the town for a short period prior to the Retroid Pocket 5 release.

It wasn’t the Retroid Pocket 5 that stole its thunder however, it was a well documented snafu on Retroid’s part. There was a lot of controversy around incorrect colorways and then the screen. Strange enough the Mini V2 is being released with the same display as the V1.

This time however Retroid isn’t hiding the screen under the handhelds bezel to artificially change the screen ratio. This was only discovered on the Mini V1 after users realized they were unable to properly use overlays and various filters. The internet was a buzz.

Retroid fumbled the customer satisfaction portion of their response and eventually ended at sending customers a screen replacement for end users to install themselves. I actually have oddly not tackled this project yet but understand from those who have that it’s time consuming.

I’m in the camp that they should have released the Retroid Pocket Mini the way it is today on the Mini V2. I’m actually far more interested in the RP Mini now that I won’t need to squint.

Unfortunately it looks like we are only getting 1 color this time around. It appears that Retroid will only be offering a Black version. One could argue that black makes the screen appear as an infinity display, blending the inky AMOLED blacks on the 3.92” screen with the edgeless glass bezels.

On a side note Retroid did recently make a good PR move trying to win back their US customers. Retroid is still shipping to the US and is eating tariffs charged to consumers. No idea how long this is sustainable, if you are thinking about buying you may want to pull the trigger. We are still waiting to see if other manufacturers do this, otherwise Retroid might be the solo option for US based consumers. Read more about it here:
