If you have been paying attention to the market it was only a matter of time before Sony raised the price of the PS5!
We have seen this happen with both Nintendo and Xbox over the last few weeks with Tariffs more or less being blamed. The interesting thing with Sony is this isn’t the first time they have raised instead of lowered prices during this generation.
The new price increase from Sony will raise PS5’s $50 over the last price increase for the consoles. They have now raised instead of lowered prices nearly 25% since launch in November 2020.

Sony like other console manufacturers Nintendo and Microsoft don’t directly blame the new US Tariffs on the price increase, but instead tip toed around it by pointing to “navigating a challenging economic environment”. The only new challenge in the electronics market economics seeing as these console traditionally are produced in China is tariffs however.

Interestingly Nintendo recently increased prices on their 7 year old Switch 1 and Switch Lite systems after the release of the Switch 2. They also stated the economic environment and also have the majority of their manufacturing in China.
Seeing as they are still making games for the PS4 and PS4 Pro those consoles are seeming like an even better value as they saw typical price decreases over their lifecycle. If the PS5 ever comes back down in price you can upgrade most of your games for around $10 instead of purchasing full titles of your favorites too.
