Watchout TrimUI Brick, XURetro is Releasing a Direct Competitor | XU20 V32

If you are ready for a New competitive Retro Handheld brand you won’t have to wait much longer.

XU Retro is gearing up to launch their new XU20 V32. If “XU” sounds familiar it’s because they got that portion of their company name from MagicX who released similar handhelds like the XU10 released last year. MagicX is no longer using the XU naming scheme since handing it over to New brand XU Retro.

Specs

The New XU20 V32 is a pretty direct competitor to the very popular TrimUI Brick and XU Retro’s first release as a new company. Not only is XU using the same processor for the XU20 but they are also using the same 3.2” 1024×768 display but with the addition of touch.

We know these details thanks to Reddit user u/N4riN4ri who has released multiple posts around the upcoming XU20 V32 including specs and pricing. According to N4riN4ri the rest of the known Specs are as follows:

This handheld really could be a direct competitor with the Brick especially for someone looking for an Android handheld. The pricing also makes this more powerful device (more RAM) appealing as well.

Colors

There are apparently 6 color choices right now and you are able to go on Reddit and vote for your favorite 4. This makes me think XU will be releasing four of the colors in question. Right now available colors are as follows:

• Black
• Tan
• Teal
• Green
• Purple
• Magenta

Companies tend to play it safe and XU Retro is showing itself to be a colorful company so far. I’m guessing we will see the Tan colorway dropped off this list. I’m a little surprised there isn’t a red option but I would guess the other color to get dropped is purple. The magenta looks closer to the Nintendo purple used back in the day and holds a close place in many Retro Gamers hearts.

Pricing

I’m absolutely surprised by the pricing for this handheld. Though we don’t have the final retail price we do know how much the first 600 early bird handhelds are selling for.

For those lucky first 600 customers of XU Retro on the XU20 V32, they will be able to pickup the new handheld for $48. That is a steal for what this device offers and puts it in a staring contest with the Brick.

I’m excited to see a new company come to market. There are some questions I’ve been getting around their origin, so I’ve reached out to a couple contacts to see if we can clear up some misnomers. I’m also wondering if these XU handhelds will be partnered with Ampwn similar to MagicX?
